This map was created by the National Humanities Alliance Foundation as part of its Humanities Working Groups for Community Impact Initiative – a national project focused on how humanities organizations from different sectors can collaborate to achieve greater local impact and build stronger affinity for the humanities within their communities. The map presents an array of models for the kind of collaborative, publicly-engaged work that the Working Groups Initiative seeks to promote – programs that:

• foster collaboration between universities and colleges and organizations working outside the academy;
• cultivate active engagement with the humanities among diverse community members and stakeholders; and
• showcase the power of the humanities to address issues of local concern.
